Frances

I’ve been thinking about sweet Frances as a first name lately. A teensy bit afraid to but if Mama wants to come back and haunt me for it, well, I’ll welcome it! 😀

Yes, I’d call her Francie, just like Mom.  I went digging for combos yesterday and came up with a good handful (not that I’m done digging by any means) but here’s what I’ve got preliminarily:

Frances Calliope Elinor
Frances Ivy Pearl
Frances Coralie Jane
Frances Ottoline Blythe
Frances Ottilie Violet
Frances Amabel Violet (Not sure about the repeated ‘a’ sounds but it sure looks pretty!)
Frances Rufina Valentine  (okay, a bit odd, bit neat!)
Frances Lucy Primrose
Frances Tallulah Jane
Frances Romilly Isobel
Frances Luna Irene
Frances Aurelia Violet (I amy pull Aurelia Violet outr and give her a spot of her own!)
Frances Jemima Pearl
Frances Violetta Pearl
Frances Ophelia Blythe
Frances Penelope Violet
Frances Matilda Jane
Frances Ottilie Jane

Aww, thanks Anna! Frances Jemima Pearl is my favorite too! Frances Coralie Jane is a secondary with Frances Ottilie Jane & Frances Penelope Violet a tie for third!

Frances dosen’t sit right with me. To me, it’s too feminine for a boy and not feminine enough for a girl.

Aww, Too bad, Sarah. I can see why, but I’m quite attached to Frances/Francie because of Mama. I also like Francis. Frankie is adorable on a toddler and Frank is wicked handsome on a grown man! I find Francis to be the absolute opposite of the disturbing trend I see here in the States, what with those Hunter, Cutter, Stabber, Bomber boys running arund; I find Francis strong and debonair, which is something Hunter & his “brothers” are massively lacking. As for Frances on a girl; I think she’s feminine but not fluffy, frilly, or otherwise soft. Her sound is soft and that’s as far as Frances goes in that direction. I like her solidity, strength and her elegance. The fact that she doesn’t appeal to a lot of folks is what makes Frances really shine for me! 😀

Lola, although I’m not usually a fan of Frances I certainly love some of these combinations! Add to it that it’s Mama’s name and I can certainly see the appeal.

    My favorites from your list:
    – Frances Coralie Jane
    – Frances Violetta Pearl – I like the sound, but it is just a tad too nature-y? Plus pearl can be considered a color; does mixing it with “violet” smoosh things up too much?
    – Frances Penelope Violet – LOVE IT!

Christine, thanks a million! I know Frances isn’t one that gets rave reviews from the masses. I rather like that, actually. It’s what sold Josephine to me too. Everyone I mentioned it to while pregannt with her went “eww, that’s an ugly old lady name, why would you want to do that to a cute little baby!!!!” and all i could think was “She’s only a baby for a year, I want her to sound like an old lady when she gets there”. So Josephine she was. Frances feels the same.
Frances Violetta Pearl isn’t too color-y for me. Pearl is a shimmery white and as such is almost a non-color for me. And Violetta is dominating enough…. 😉 I’m really digging Violetta these days, Maybe I should think about her up front?

Frances Amabel Violet is one I dodn’t even notice her initials! FAM was what was going in my head, the V didn’t even come into it. But yeah, she’s my second favorite up there, easily. Do you find Frances Amabel too hard to say, with both having that same open ‘A’ sound in them? I don’t, but I want to make sure I’m not the only one! 😀

Frances Ottoline Blythe, Frances Ottilie Violet, Frances Amabel Violet and Frances Ottilie Jane are my picks, for what that’s worth.

Ooh, thanks Mia! Frances Ottoline charms me completely, Blythe is just a nod to him, he likes her sound, I think. I also like how Blythe lightens Frances Ottoline right up! Frances Ottilie Jane gets the major part of Mom’s name in there (Frances Jane) along with my favorite: Ottilie. I think I like Ottoline a it better next to Frances, though. So Frances Ottoline Blythe is staying along with Frances Jemima Pearl (I think I still prefer Jemima up front: Jemima Frances Ruby), Frances Amabel Violet & Frances Penelope Violet!

Thanks all, for stopping by! 😀
