The Girls in my Head

After taking a break and trying not to think about names (Ha!), I find these name combos still in my head. Any here that catch your eye?

Ottilie Frances Jane – Tillie still thrills me, and I’m charmed by the thought of Josephine & Ottilie sisters.

Wilhelmina Esme Jane – Yep, Mina is darling. ūüôā Esme & Jane are pretty light and tiny next to weighty Wilhelmina, whose solidity makes me smile.

Araminta Lucy Violet – Again with Mina/Min possibility, I’m enchanted. I also think Josephine & Araminta are pretty stunning sisters.

Cecily Pandora Jane – Remains at the top of my “emminently usable” list. And Cecily is charming, if a bit confusing in my Cec- loaded family (yet Cecily remains unused!).

Clementine India Jane – Yep, Clementine thrills me. Cleo/Clio are possible nicknames but like Josephine, she’d be Clementine most often.

India Mehetabel Jane – India’s short but three syllbles, which makes her sit well with Josephine in my head. The middles, as always, honor.

And still tops after the break: Maud India Scarlett. Yes, India & Scarlett together. I like colors but find them a bit too much, the double ‘t’ makes it more namey, less color-ish for me. And India is one he adores, but I’m not thrilled with “Indy” potential.

Any up there that you prefer over the others? Or just let me know what you think of them. I’d love to hear!

As always, thanks for stopping by, I appreciate it!

Penelope, Araminta & Elspeth

Beyond Cecily, Cleo & Maud, these three are top favorites for both of us:

Penelope: She’s galloping, sweet and I love the potential for Poppy & Nell and she can always go by Lola should I stop using it someday! I love her mythical counterpoint and the fact that Penelope’s familiar to almost everyone but not very common.

Araminta: Has long fascinated me. I think She’s strong but oh so lush & rich. I adore Minna/Mina & Min as possible nicknames and I love how Araminta seems familiar to most but it’s so rarely heard for real. It’s stunning in full, too!

and

Elspeth: Charming, feels other-worldly. Completely feminine but no fluffy thing, Elspeth has a steel core. And she would honor Grandma Lily and me, as the Scottish form of Elisabeth, which we both had/have. I adore Elsa
& Elsie as possible nicknames (not to mention the far flung Bess & Lily)!

I have combos I love for each of them:
Penelope Violet Jane
Araminta Lucy Violet
Elspeth Scarlett Jane

Now, my dilemma. Should I move these onto the primary list or leave them as wildcards? What should I toss if I did move them to Primaries? Do you like these better than the ones already there or not? What? Just help, because we can’t decide what goes where beyond Cecily (or Cleo)¬†at #1 and Maud at #2.

Anyone have a theory why boys names come so easily to us but girls names we have to struggle with? I’m baffled!

So any thoughts are most welcome, indeed. As always, Thanks for stopping in!

Revisiting Araminta

I’m still quite stuck on Araminta. Every time I think I’m over her, I turn around and find something else I love about her.

This little Araminta doesn’t hurt the name any, either. ūüôā Isn’t she just precious?¬†¬†

So with that said, I’ve had Araminta floating around on my list for what, a year or more now? And while I’ve had combos that reigned for a short time each, there’s never been one that lasted for more than a few months. Araminta Alice Green hung around the longest and is still the one that’s hanging around the edges. Araminta’s the loveliest silvery shade and goes very well with the forest green surname, I think.¬† Here’s what I’ve come up with most recently:

Araminta Iris Llanfaire
Araminta Helen Ophelia
Araminta Tilley Violet
Araminta Portia Ruby

Araminta Lucy Violet
Araminta Clara Anouk
Araminta Lavender Blythe
Araminta Coraline Violet
and like I said, Araminta Alice Green is still hanging on by a thread.¬† Anything up there better than AAG?¬† I’m rather liking the italicized ones a bit better than the others, ¬†especially Araminta Portia Ruby. But then, I’ve been rather stuck on Portia lately, she’s been showing up everywhere these days!

So, anything there jump out at you? Should I try yet again? Give up entirely? What? Talk to me, tell me what you think, I’d love to know!

Quick decision!

Trying to decide which one belongs in 10th place, here they are, you tell me:

Winifred Elinor Plum
Araminta Violet Isobel
Xanthe Iris Dorothea

Which one would you pick? Why?

Thanks!

The Girly Wildcards

I have far too many wildcards, those combos I love but not as much as the top ones. Or in some cases, more, but I find them a tiny bit unwieldy for day to day use.

Ideally, I’d have a top 10 and 10 wildcards. Recently I’ve added three names to the wildcard list, bringing the total up to 16 Wildcards. There’s already 11 girls in the top 10 (I know, I know…) so I need to cull these down to three or four at best and am having the hardest time getting rid of any of them!

Ottilie Alice Ghislaine – Tillie, Ottilie, Leeloo, Lina
Susanna Ottilie Pearl РSukie, Zuzu, Zanna
Pomeline Frances Elinor – Poppy, Polly, Millie, Molly, Lina

Laetitia Amabel Violet – Lettie, Etta, Lettice
Araminta Lucy Violet – Minna, Mina
Euphemia Elinor Glory РEffie, Mia, Fifi
Elspeth Margery Violet – Elsa, Elsie
Aurelia Romilly Jane – Goldie, Rellie
Mathilda Lucy Elanor РTillie, Maud, Maudie
Henrietta Ruby Lilias РHattie, Hettie,  Etta, Harriet
Lucretia Ruby Iris – Lucy, Lulu, Lux
Jemima Frances Ruby – Mimi, Jemma
Zuleika Esme Violet – Zuzu, Zooey
Zenaida Ruby Frances РZen, Zeni,  Aida, Zinnia, Flower
Florence Lila Ghislaine – Flora, Flory, Fleur, Ren
Romilly Alice Kathleen – Romy, Millie

If pushed, I’d say probably the bolded 4 are the biggest loves but I’m already mourning the loss of¬†6 others not bolded. If you had to pick 4 from this list to use on a girl, which 4 would you pick and why?¬†See why I’m having problems?¬† ¬†Any help at all would be completely appreciated!¬† Thanks!

Araminta & Aurelia

Brought up Aurelia yesterday, he countered with Araminta.

Now, Araminta’s been on the list before and has been hanging out in the Wildcards recently.¬† Araminta Lucy Violet or Araminta Alice Green, I waffle as to which I prefer although he’s come down firmly in Araminta Lucy Violet’s camp, so she may be the default winner here.¬† I’ve been thinking Araminta Daisy Jane too.

¬†Aurelia’s down to three:

Aurelia Violet Petronel
Aurelia India Pearl
Aurelia Romilly Jane

Now I like both names and if you Google Araminta, there’s an absolute cutie with the name, just a bit over a year old now.¬† I’m not posting any more on her, don’t want to invade anyone’s privacy. But go ahead & Google, she’s the first link, in a wordpress blog.¬† So cute!¬† Whereas this is the littlest Aurelia I can find: Baby Aurelia¬† And she’s about Josie’s age !¬†

I also find a sister set: Aurelia and Annalise which makes me cry a little, Anneliese, not Annalise !¬† But I think their Mom has an Etsy shop (I haven’t dug further) and they’re probably adorable.

So of these:
Araminta Alice Green
Araminta Lucy Violet
Araminta Daisy Jane
Aurelia Violet Petronel
Aurelia India Pearl
Aurelia Romilly Jane

Which would you pick¬† and why?¬†¬† Most of you visiting know why these are in the order they’re in but I’ll elaborate if you want me to, in a comment, later.¬†

As always, thanks for stopping by!

Araminta & Zuleika

I’ve got both on the table again, Zuleika for him, Araminta for me. I really do like Araminta and would likely call her Minna or Mina as a nickname. As I’ve already said,¬† Josephine is “My Little Pony” mad and as such, could never use Minty!¬† *This* is Minty: 740px-minty

Araminta Lucy Violet I have and Araminta Alice Green, I had. Both are still floating around my head, and am trying to decide between.

For Zuleika, I’ve got Zuleika Esme Violet on the list now, as a wildcard but am thinking Zuleika Frances right now. Am looking for a second middle and have come up with these, so far:
Zuleika Frances June
Zuleika Frances Primrose
Zuleika Frances Adeline
Zuleika Frances Viola
Zuleika Frances Isobel
Zuleika Frances Leonora
Zuleika Frances Scarlett
Zuleika Frances Adele
Zuleika Frances Blythe
Zuleika Frances Mathilde

And that’s the best I can do, for now anyway. I’m still thinking. I should, he humors me. ūüôā

Is there anything there that jumps out at you or just strikes your fancy?¬† I’m thinking June, Primrose (just because it’s family), Adele (f I can get him to stop saying it as AY-dell, like they do in “Natural Born Killers”) and Blythe are my best rhythm- goers.¬† Help? Please? Maybe I need to rethink Frances as a middle.¬† Hmmm.

Help me out!

I’ve been narrowing down the names I like for my #10 spot. And I’m running a poll at BtN right now to try to see which ones are liked best.

Vote in the poll or scroll down a bit to see the list!

Here’s the 10 in line for #10:

Maud India Scarlett
Agatha Esme Plum
Euphemia Elinor Glory
Araminta Alice Green
Henrietta Ruby Lilias
Zuleika Esme Violet
Clementine India Jane
Mathilda Lucy Elanor
Beatrix Poppy Elinor
Elspeth Violet Elinor

Which would YOU put in my top 10, at #10?  Vote or post! Please? Thanks!

Araminta & Jemima – the battling girls

I don’t think I’ve brought her up much recently but she’s climbing my¬†list rather quickly, I am completely charmed by her sound and her color, which is silvery-white.¬†¬† I like that she’s a literary name; she fits in the group with Zuleika for me. I’m also charmed by her multiple nicknames. No Minty here (She’s a “My Little Pony“!) but rather Minna or Mina, or like Josephine, Araminta in full.¬† I think she sounds awesome next to Josephine too, just look at them together:

                         Josephine & Araminta

How lovely they are!

I’m also quite enchanted with her combo: Araminta Alice Green. It’s warm, friendly and the Green actually makes me love the combo. The color of them together is awesome, Silvery-white,¬†white-gold and pale spring green. They’re beautiful!¬† The combo of Araminta & Green¬† is linked in my head to some degree. Methinks ¬†I read far too much sometimes!¬† ūüėĬ† I don’t think Green does any harm in third like that either, so don’t bother complaining about it. ūüėõ It’s rather like Maud India or Elinor Glory, they just belong together in my head.¬† ūüôā

Now for Jemima. I live in the good ‘ol USA (despite the way I sound when I type) and have all my life. I’ve loved Jemima since I was a kid, yes I was raised by a mix of Roman Catholic (Mom) ¬†and Protestant (Pop). Between the two of them, I went to church every Sunday and also read the Bible regularly. Dad was big on “read it and act, don’t just lip-worship” And while I do come across as snooty, I’m quite far from it, for real.¬† I only within the last 10 years realised it was a pancake/breakfast food brand here (I do not eat pancakes, ever and utterly loathe maple syrup).¬† I still love Jemima despite that and really don’t think it’s that big a deal. I mean, people name girls after Diseases: Alexia & Addison and Minivans: Sienna & Sedona (I know one, really!), what’s a pancake mix?¬† I know about her earlier advertising (I worked in the field for a number of years) and while I find it distasteful, I see no reason why it should keep anyone from using the name now. Using it, rather than keeping it off limits, to me, is showing that I disagree with the origins and find it lovely enough to use.¬† Not using it isn’t respecting it, it’s like I’m ashamed and want to hide that we were awful. I won’t do that.

I¬†am also charmed by her combo: Jemima Frances Ruby. it’s all warm violets & reds to me.¬† Jemima’s the loveliest violet shade, Frances is a dusty red¬†And I’ve described Ruby ¬†before, suffice to say, the deep gemstone color of her sets off both Jemima & Frances most beautifully (I think I’m channelling “Bill & Ted” tonight).

I cannot decide which one to put in my #10 spot, Silvery-gold-green Araminta Alice Green or Violetty-red Jemima Frances Ruby, so I’d like to ask you, my readers to tell me which one you’d rather see in my #10 spot (or possibly higher) and, if you don’t mind, why? I’d appreciate it most mightily!

 Thanks!

The Wildcards

I’ve got names I adore but find a bit hard to use in one manner or another. I try anyway. Figured I’d toss them out for the heck of it today. Here, for your perusal:

The Guys:

Clarence/Clancy– I adore him and he’s actually in the top 10 despite my problem with him. He’s strong, handsome & angelic. I love his gentle feel. My problem? His combo. I’ve tenatively got Clarence Henry Rafael, which is lovely and while¬†I can live with it, it doesn’t make Clarence shine. I want him to sparkle. Any suggestions?¬†

Malcolm¬† – He’s a long time love. I mean, Leo was nearly Malcolm, long time. I love his combo too Malcolm Barnaby Edward/Malcolm Edward Barnaby (haven’t decided which way I like it best yet). My problem? I need someone to tell me Malcolm MacK isn’t as clowny sounding as I think it is.¬† He even sounds awesome with the sibset. *sigh* Talk me into him!

Bruno
– He’s a family surname of sorts (my Stepmom’s maiden name) and I really like his combo: Bruno Henry Valentin.¬† I like him lots and think he sounds pretty great with the sibset. My probelm with him? The other half’s not too sure about him and others think he’s a dog. It shouldn’t bother me (doesn’t with Cosmo), but for some reason, that does.

Blaise– I love his brainy, artistic feel and think he goes most superbly with the sibset but I don’t even have him paired, everyone instinctively spells him Blaze, Ugh.

Perry – I adore his easy, breezy style and his lighthearted feel.¬† I first think Perry White or Perry Mason but even Perry the platypus doesn’t bother me.¬† I don’t have him paired either, the other half think it’s going to the girls. Anyone have an argument for Perry on a boy?

The Gals:

Romilly – Yes, she’s placename-y (doesn’t bother me, I have cousins in one of the Romillys), and Romy honors a¬† Rosemary indirectly (that works in my huge family). Milly/Millie, she’s just sweet. ¬†I love her two combos: Romilly Alice Kathleen (honors more, Kathleen’s my sister, Alice was to have been my name) & Romilly Elinor Blythe (Blythe I just like here, very much). My problem? She’s quite odd with the sibset. *sigh*

Pandora– I so would love to use this as a first name, to heck with it to meshing with the sibs. It honors, and I love both her sound and her meaning ‘all gifts’. But “the box” teasing may be too much in middle school as a first so I have her in the middle: Cecily Pandora Jane. Tell me it’s alright, please.¬† ūüôā

Araminta– Another one I’ve loved for a good while. I love her frill, her feel and her femininity. She’s lovely but not weak. And Min/Minna & Mina as possible nicknames enchant me to no end. I love her combo: Araminta Alice Green. If anyone knows their “Freedom Train” (not the 1976 one, either)¬†history, they’ll know where Green came from here.¬† I need Min/Mina somewhere and this works best for me. And Green is so calm and clean, too. Not like the blues or pinks.

Esmeralda– The name of my G. Grandma’s oldest sister. Utterly lovely and breaks down to the tiny & divine Esme.¬† My problem? She’s quite a bit clashy with the surname: Esmeralda MacK? I don’t think so. ¬†

Wilhelmina – I’ve loved her for at least 5 years.¬† And I love her potential obvious nicknames: Willa & Mina. My problem? She’s impossible to pair.¬† Anyone have any ideas?

Xanthe– Love, love, love Xanthe’s breezy sound and snazzy looks. Her meaning’s wicked cool too. I even adore her combo: Xanthe Rosalind Elinor. Problem? Josephine & Xanthe?¬† Mmm, I don’t think so. Talk me into it, if you do.

And there they are. Lovely, one & all and for the most part usable but not always for me.
