Cosmo, Cleo & Similar

I’ve been thinking, I love Cosmo and Cleo. So what else is like them, vibe wise. So, trolling though my lists, here;s what I’ve come up with, both boy & girl.  In the interest of “I like them but want something different” here they are:

Boys:
Tycho, Theophilus, Dmitri, Elias, Augustus, Romeo, Ezra, Galen, Ulysses, Philo, Titus, Alexander, Alistair, Silvio, Jethro, Clement, Leonardo, Angelo, Carmine, Bruno, Theron, Benedict, Pascal, Leander, Florian, Ignatius, Simeon.

Girls:
Isadora, Violetta, Zelda, Rosario, Alice, Ariadne, Xanthe, Danae, Valentina, Salome, Apollonia, Clementine, Tallulah, Drucilla, Portia, Beatrix, Scarlett, Sidony, Imogen, Ophelia, Oona.

What do you think? Agree, disagree? Want to add some? Write some off? Let me know, I’d love to hear from you all!

Edgar

Thinking about Edgar recently. Nothing serious yet, I mean, he’s been in the back of my head for a few months and I’ve been thinking about his possibility as a first name for two days. 🙂 I’m actually liking him quite a bit. Edgar feels strong, a bit jazzy, rather dashing and cool.  Between Edgar Allan Poe, Edgar Rice Burroughs & Edgar Degas, I’m rather swoony on Edgar right now.  He’s not going to replace Rufus anytime soon, but I’m starting to think of combos for him…

Edgar Milo John
Edgar Milo Peregrin
Edgar Morgan John
Edgar William Wilder
Edgar Finlay Jude
Edgar Taliesin Bede
Edgar Finbar George/Edgar Finbar James

Of course, this is only a start, anything there to make you think I may be on the right track?

 As far as the Ed- names go, what do you think of Edgar? Anyone else see how I get the handsome, jazzy somewhat Victorian vibe from him?

 Am I the only soul who likes Edgar? Some days it feels like it.

So, the question for today, obviously; – Edgar?  😀

The Newest Appealers

Okay, so that was rather odd for a title but it’s about as dead on as I can think right now.  I have a small set of names that have been appealing to me and they’re not quite my usual fare.  I don’t want to make combos with them, I don’t want to use them, I just want to admire them. Is that weird?  🙂  I suppose in a way, yeah.

But I was thinking, if I have these that appeal, but have no inclination to use, what does that make them?  Not GP’s, because they’re perfectly ordinary names (for the most part). Here they are:

Sylvie – it’s so crystal clear & crisp. Sharp, even. But so sweet too.  Too simple for me to actually use, Sylvie’s so pretty!

Clotilde – Before you shriek; clo-TEELD, there’s no clot- sound. I think she’s so light & delicate. Absolutely sky blue too.  Just beautiful.

Claud – Yeah, really. I love him in French and think the pronunciation in English can be dealt with.  I love the way he looks. What is it with me and losing that final ‘e’?  Claude feels a bit brutish to me, not so Claud. Weird, no?

George – Maybe it’s me, I think Washington, Monkey (and man with Yellow hat), and Carlin before Bush. And those three save George for me. I like him because in a roundabout way, he honors my Pop, who would have made a fabulous George but settled for being his Patron Saint.  I did spend time trying to be happy with George up front, but none of my other favorites sound right with George up front.

And the wild one: Vashti. I did make a combo I was happy with a long time ago (at leat a year ago) Vashti Amandine Faye. But the combo no longer appeals yet Vashti still does; what sort of freakish nonsense is this? Vashti? So lush, rich and beautiful. Doesn’t fit wth Josephine but Vashti still appeals. Definitely wild.  ;D

 So there’s my  “I don’t want to do anything but admire” appealing bunch.  Do you have any names like this? What are they? and what do you think of mine?

Agatha Violet

Still really liking Agatha and toying with more combos. Agatha Violet Alice is the standard bearer, for now. But still thinking:

Agatha Violet Jane
Agatha Violet Isabel
Agatha Cecily Violet
Agatha Violet Frances/Agatha Frances Violet (Can’t decide which way I like this one, AFV so far)
and
Agatha Violet Maud – I love the colors but maybe Maud is too heavy with only Violet to lighten this combo up?

Obviously I’m not entirely settled on Agatha Violet Alice. I mean I could live with her but she doesn’t sing, you know? Sometimes it just doesn’t happen.  Anyone else have any thoughts on Agatha? I’d love to hear them!

Cat prompted me to finally do it. I’d been thinking of changing my theme, what do you think?

Clementine Redux

Working on the thought I barely recalled: Clementine, nn Cleo. Since I adore Cleo and thoroughly like Clementine I figured I should try out some different combos for her, see if anything really jumps out out me. Wanna see? 😀

Here goes:

Clementine Portia Clotilde – love the lush feel of this one
Clementine Lucy Isobel – feels a bit expected.
Clementine India Maud – ooh, interesting, I love India and well, Maud’s in contention for first place…
Clementine Alice Elinor – very pretty.
Clementine Eos Faye – No one’s going to ‘get” Eos, but she’s so pretty!
Clementine Mina Alice – love Mina and Alice together.
Clementine India Jane – a bit crisper than India Maud.
Clementine Ottilie Echo – Alright, so Echo’s whimsy. It gets two of my favorite names in there with the whimsy.
Clementine Ivy Agatha – Or maybe Agatha Ivy, either way, Agatha grounds both very nicely.
Clementine Sylvie Violet – Loving Sylvie recently and Violet’s gorgeous and honors.
Clementine Jemima Adele – Love, love, love Jemima andAdele feels light & sweet here.
Clementine Esme Viola -terminally elegant!
Clementine Violet Rosalind – maybe too nature-y all around?
Clementine Agatha Violet – utterly charming, Agatha Violet.
Clementine Edwina Violet – I love Edwina, she’s charmingly quaint. Violet honor, again.
Clementine Lily Adele – Lily honors Grandma, Adele is just sweet. (now if I could just get him to stop saying Adele like they do in “Natural Born Killers…)
Clementine Lilias Pearl – Lilias honors Grandma a bit more circularly, Pearl just charms me.
Clementine Viola Odette – still hooked on those Opera names!
Clementine Maud Elinor – My beloved Maud with Honoring Elinor.
Clementine Alice Grey – Still feeling a bit Steampunkish, this suits the mood. And feels sort of buttoned up and respectable at the same time.

So there you go, along with all my thoughts at the moment. What do you think?  Let me know!

As always, Thanks!

Cleo/Clio again

It’s down to figuring out which way to spell Cleo/Clio.

Cleo Portia Rupinder or Clio Portia Rupinder?

Yep, Cleo/Clio Portia is staying as is (I love them together!)  and I am completely enamoured of Rupinder here and refuse to consider anything else. 🙂 But which way is more appealing: Cleo or Clio? What do you say?

A Handful of Oddballs

Frida/Frieda, Vashti, Adele, Rowena, Zora, Louisa & Gwendolen/Gwendolyn. All of these are names that appeal to me on some level but will never be used for one reason or another.

Frida/Frieda, Adele, Louisa & Zora because they’ve been vetoed by the other half. Vashti’s too exotic, Gwendolen/Gwendolyn is weird, I prefer the -en ending, it’s instinctively the -yn spelling. So rules it out.

Do you have names you’d admire but can’t use, for whatever reason? I’d love to see some of them!

Cleo

Alright, I’ve been trying to get people to call *me* Cleo since I was two and have failed miserably. 😀    So I keep coming back to her for another girl. yeah, I’d use Cleopatra for myself, even now but not on a kid, she was too nasty a bint, ruined it. So Cleo it is. (I love Clio, the muse but seeing as how Verity already has a daughter ‘named’ Clio… I feel I should go back to my first love). Still sticking with Cleo Portia; I have a whole bunch of combos to sift through, wanna help? 🙂

Cleo Portia Clementine
Cleo Portia Matilde
Cleo Portia Delphine
Cleo Portia Rupinder
Cleo Portia Melisande
Cleo Portia Rosamund
Cleo Portia Katharine
Cleo Portia Valentina
Cleo Portia Bluebell
Cleo Portia Clotilde

My favorites are Cleo Portia Clementine. Cleo Portia Matilde, Cleo Portia Rupinder (yes, still trying to fit her somewhere, I think here is Perfect!), Cleo Portia Rosamund & Cleo Portia Katharine (Katharine might balance Cleo & Portia a fair bit).  But couldn’t pick one if my life depended on it. (well, maybe Cleo Portia Rupinder).

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks! 😀

Willoughby

I am a reader of massive proportions. there is always a book near me, and my nose is frequently buried inside an open one. I’m used to reading while I eat, even. So if I’m not online, I’m reading. Even through movies, sometimes. Which drives him bananas. 😛

Which brings me back to Willoughby. I first stumbled upon Willoughby in Diana Gabaldon’s “Outlander” series. Mr. Willoughby was a Chinaman who was an unwilling compatriot of Jamie’s when Claire goes back to find him after Bree is grown. Yeah, told you I was a voracious reader! And I recall more than 90% of what I read. Can’t tell you how many times I’ve picked up an interesting looking book, turned to the first page, read it and said” Oh, I remember how this one ends”! It stinks but means my library is huge. Between us we probably have close to 10,000 books. Everything from children’s stories to the most recent stuff.

Back to Willoughby, again. I just can’t keep focussed today easily. Sorry. I think Willoughby’s pretty snazzy. three syllable, bouncy and happy, like Barnaby and shortens to Will so very nicely. I like saying Willoughby in full too. I dig that happy feel. I like that you can only get Will out of Willoughby too, unless you go the Bee route (which feels rather feminine to me). I don’t like Liam much. I mean, not for my kid, it’s okay on other kids. Only Will. I like Will best and with little to no other option, Willoughby’s perfect!

I have no combos yet, still a  bit down to be making things right now. But I will soon. What does everyone else think of Willoughby? Like him, Hate him, indifferent? Anything?

Ronan

Something that just slipped past my radar the other day. Actually, the whole medieval name thing started again (although I’m still working on Opera names). Thanks Emmy Jo! 😀

Off her Medieval list my brain stuck Ronan Alaric Bede together. What do you think?  Haven’t mentioned anything to him, having a bad day here, am losing the baby. Only 9 weeks so it’s not seriously debilitating but it is sad. I’ve spent most of today in bed, just laying around watching movies.

And thinking about Ronan. I think he’s pretty sharp and it makes me think of Ronan Hardiman & Ronan Keating. So it strikes me as creative but far from made up and still unusual.  Can I get any thoughts on Ronan? I really need to distract myself and since I love names, pregnant or not, I’m sticking with them.

So, Ronan?  Anyone?

Maud, Mina, Edith, Clio, Zelda & Ottilie

I’m having fits. 🙂 Crazy, frothing fits. 😀 Toying with others that seem to fit more with Maud, who just may replace Cecily as my #1. Probably won’t because Cecily honors a bit more but still, the urge is very much there.
So I got to thinking, what else was like Maud?

 Digging through my  lists, I came up with  Mina, Edith, Clio/Cleo, Zelda & Ottilie. They all have the same vintage, more or less and all have that slightly musty, funky vibe I so adore.   Zelda’s combos are up in the air again: Zelda Ivy Blithe, Zelda Iris Grey or Zelda Coralie Blithe (I’m rather partial to Coralie). Today’s Poll #1

And Mina’s got a tossup: Mina Lucy Raphaela, Mina Lucy Tamerlaine, Mina Alice Clementine & Mina Alice Rosamonde.  With the Mina Alice Bluebell &  Mina Lucy Bluebell  tossed in for good measure. Today’s Poll #2.

 The others are:

Ottilie Alice Mehitabel (loving this right now)
Maud India Scarlett (My beloved)
Edith Esme Violetta – The middles honor big time)
Clio Laetitia Plum/Cleo Portia Isolde/Clio Laetitia Eleanora (I adore Cleo Portia &
 Clio Laetitia, the second middles just appeal broadly).

 Go vote in the Poll if you’re so inclined.  🙂

  Ottilie comes close to rivaling Maud’s combo for me, but only close. Nohing else really does, although I like them all  rather well. I could happily have 6 daughters named Maud, Mina, Edith, Clio/Cleo, Zelda  & Ottilie.  But I digress. Is there anything here that is better than Maud India Scarlett to anyone? Please let me know if there’s one in your eyes. I’d love for someone to try to talk me out of Maud India Scarlett!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And now for something completely different!
Tavish. Scottish Thomas. Thomas is off limits in my house thanks to the numerous alcoholics named Thomas still staggering around.  But Tavish would honor my favorite of the sots (he really is a sweet guy, even soused) and neatly sidesteps the “You named him Thomas” thing, I’d likely get from family.
 I’ve got him paired with my two favorite classics, Edward & George and several of my favorite oddballs. Here for your perusal, Tavish.
Tavish Edward Finian
Tavish Edward Lysander
Tavish Edward Albion
Tavish Edward Alaric
Tavish Edward August
Tavish George Peregrin
Tavish George Rohan
Tavish George Maxfield
Tavish George Gavriil
Tavish George Maximilian
I like all of these for various reasons, Finian because he’s dashing next to Tavish Edward, Lysander because he’s one of my favorite Shakespearean characters, Albion because I love the over English feel of the combo, Alaric because I love all things Medieval and he goes quite nicely here, August for Mom, as always. Peregrin because it’s slightly more masculine than Peregrine, for me and still is recognisable as my favorite LOTR character (non human, anyway). Rohan because he’s sleek and I love saying him (Rowan, not Ro-HAN), Maxfield for my favorite artist, ever, Gavriil for Great Uncle Gavriil and Maximilian just because I love his overblown style.
So there you have it. Anything jump out at you as pretty neat? Let me know!  Thanks!
