My “style”?

I am apparently all over the map, style wise. I really looked at my top lists the other day and was struck by the fact that I seem to have at least 2 separate styles. Weird and funky.  here, I’ve grouped them in similar piles:

Group 1
Maud India Scarlett
Ottilie Alice Ghislaine
Zelda Lucy Violet
Edith Zenobia Violet
Lilias Mehetabel June
Sylvie Mimosa Jane
Xanthe Iris Dorothea
Cleo Portia Rupinder
Cecily Pandora Jane

Group 2
Clementine India Jane
Jemima Lucy Maud
Lucretia Ruby Iris
Winifred Elinor Plum
Matilda Frances Ruby
Imogen Violet Jane
Beatrix Violet Jane
Euphemia Elinor Glory
Philippa Saskia Violet
Cecilia Violet Petronel

and those are just the girls!  I can do that to the boys too, to a lesser extent. See:

Group1
Rufus Wilder John
Remy Edward Xavier
Cosmo Henry George
Bruno Edward Rafael
Barnaby Edward Rex
Ignatius Edward George
Clarence Arthur Finlay
Caspar James Porfirio
Alasdair Barnaby George

Group 2
Arthur Henry Llewellyn
Oscar Valentin George
Linus Willem Bleys
Harvey Edward Augustin
Francis Henry Porfirio
Edward Balthazar George
Rafael August Anselm

So, do you agree, I’m mildly crazy? or do you see these in different groups?  Which group appeals more to you? Which ones? Anything really jump out at you up there? Let me know!

And, as always, thanks for stopping by!  😀

Thinking “Normal”

Well, trying to anyway. Anytime I bring up something familiar, Edward, George, Francis are the three I’m playing with at the moment, he has to give me a huge list of odd things to use as middles. My goodness!

I’d solidified Edward a long time ago. Edward was my Uncle. Well, one of them, anyway (Frank, Benjamin, Leo & Stanley were the others on the maternal side). I hated the Uncle but love the cousin who was named for him. So in backwards thinking mode, it’s for him, not the Uncle.  Edward Balthazar George.  Has stood as such for nearly 4 years now. He’s my “Well, he looks too timid for anything else” combo. It sits at the bottom of the Wildcards pile and waits for his chance.

Francis is one I’ve liked forever, simply for his Frank appeal. I find Frank simply open and friendly. And the Uncle was an absolute doll. I have many fond memories. He’s lovely. And well, Francis polishes up very nicely. I’ve had Francis Henry Porfirio for at least a year. Tried out Francis Arthur Peregrin as well, he’s still stewing on it. Other recent tries were: Francis Dmitri Jude & Francis Milo George. Don’t know which I prefer FHP or FAP (either way, his final initials would be FM!

Now for George!  I’ve tried to put him up front before, with little success. But I tried again and came up with a few that I do find appealing. Here:

George Lucien Sylvester
George Constantin Gavriil
George Malcolm Amadeo
George Arthur Aloysius
George Maximilian Xavier
George Milo Valentin
George  Malachy Wilder
George Laszlo Rafael
George Inigo Maxfield
George Rafferty Graeme

Anything seem appealing up there? Anything you think might be better with a tweak?  Talk to me!  🙂

As always, Thanks for stopping by! 😀

Bruno Redux

Reinspired by Verity’s cousin,   Bruno has resurfaced on my lists. I had discussed him more in depth earlier: Bruno Revisited.

And confessed my favorite combo was Bruno Henry Valentin. Well, I still like it but am rethinking the combo. I have a dozen  or more combos that I’m polling today. But here are the ones  that appeal to us most:

Bruno Edward Rafael
Bruno Xavier John
Bruno August Edward
Bruno Arthur George
Bruno Neville John
Bruno Francis John
Bruno Magnus Rafael
Bruno Rohan James
Bruno Arthur Jude

Anything there stand out more than Bruno Henry Valentin?

I really like his warm, fuzzy feel. And do think he fits in the family. Not only is he a related family surname ( My Stepmom), but he gives off a “big” vibe. My boys are 6’2″ and 6’1 respectively and probably weigh between 175 and 200.  (probably: I haven’t weighed them myself since they were 12 and haven’t accompanied them to the doctors since they were 19).  So yes, Bruno fits. He’d even fit when little, Bruno feels solid, doesn’t he? All my kids are solid. The sort that knock you down at 2 if you’re not braced when they run at you for a hug. Josie knocked me over twice before I remembered that little gem!  The boys used to do it all the time, and that was a bit worse, because they’d hit me together for a hug.  Double whammy! 😀

I know there’s folks out there who just don’t like Bruno but I like that, actually. Means a lot of people won’t be using him! I just checked his rankings, and found Bruno’s charted between 900 & 700 since 2000. Before that, he bounced on & off the charts between 1968 and 1999, but mostly off. Prior to 1968, the only year he wasn’t on was 1883! So I’m more than comfortable with Bruno.

So, anything there that strikes you right or jumps out at you? We each have a favorite or two up there but wonder which one others might like?  As always, Thanks!  😀

And now for something completely different!

Tavish. Scottish Thomas. Thomas is off limits in my house thanks to the numerous alcoholics named Thomas still staggering around.  But Tavish would honor my favorite of the sots (he really is a sweet guy, even soused) and neatly sidesteps the “You named him Thomas” thing, I’d likely get from family.

I’ve got him paired with my two favorite classics, Edward & George and several of my favorite oddballs. Here for your perusal, Tavish.

Tavish Edward Finian
Tavish Edward Lysander
Tavish Edward Albion
Tavish Edward Alaric
Tavish Edward August

Tavish George Peregrin
Tavish George Rohan
Tavish George Maxfield
Tavish George Gavriil
Tavish George Maximilian

I like all of these for various reasons, Finian because he’s dashing next to Tavish Edward, Lysander because he’s one of my favorite Shakespearean characters, Albion because I love the over English feel of the combo, Alaric because I love all things Medieval and he goes quite nicely here, August for Mom, as always. Peregrin because it’s slightly more masculine than Peregrine, for me and still is recognisable as my favorite LOTR character (non human, anyway). Rohan because he’s sleek and I love saying him (Rowan, not Ro-HAN), Maxfield for my favorite artist, ever, Gavriil for Great Uncle Gavriil and Maximilian just because I love his overblown style.

So there you have it. Anything jump out at you as pretty neat? Let me know!  Thanks!

Rufus?

Verity used Rufus as the NotD  today and I admit, he’s charming as heck.  Rufus has been on my lists since at least 1989 and “Bill & Ted” (And launched my career as a Keanu Reeves fan, too).  But that’s another story!

I remember being 22, sitting in the theater thinking :”Rufus George, hmm, not bad”. yes, even a namegeek then. 😀  So when I remembered that, I started thinking. And ended up with Rufus George Porfirio. As anyone who knows me knows, Porfiro is my Zelda for the boys. I’ve loved his sound since I was 2 and if I’d been thinking a little clearer when I had the boys, they’d be Leo Ambrose & Simon Porfirio.  Oh well. I seem to be leaning towards Porfirio as a second middle, where he won’t hurt anyone but I can still enjoy him.   I could also do these:

Rufus Edward Porfirio
Rufus James Porfirio
Rufus Martin Porfirio
Rufus Niall Porfirio
Rufus Graham Porfirio
Rufus Edwin Porfirio
Rufus Claude Porfirio
&
Rufus Elliot Porfirio

Any of those stand up better than Rufus George Porfirio?    I think I like the simplicity of George best between Rufus and Porfirio. I could go into why I paired each of these with Rufus ___ Porfirio, but think I’d rather hear what you like of them without the associations. If you want, I’ll post the associations later on tonight.

 Thanks a million!

Trying out some Oddballs

I’ve  been swirling these six around again. I like all of them pretty much equally and can only put one of each at #10. Three boys, three girls. Would you be so kind as to help me pick one and tell me why that one, in particular, please? I’d appreciate the help so very much!

Without further ado, the six:

Edward Balthazar George
Roland August Valentin
Harvey Valentin John

Mathilda Esme Primrose
Romilly Alice Kathleen
Maud India Scarlett

The boys truly are equal, I like Edward, Roland & Harvey all and wouldn’t be able to choose just one if my life depended on it! Of the girls, I want to choose Maud, as she’s a family name, where Romilly’s a place where family lives and Primrose is a still living cousin. Maud honors the same G. Grandma Josephine’s middle does. The middles are pretty equally split for honoring/sounding good/having good imagery for me. So please, pick one of each & tell me why!  Thanks!

Edward, Florence and three Oddball girls

I’m going over the most classic name on my list for a boy, an Auntie’s name and the combo: Esme Plum, with three different firsts.

Now Edward is one I have a love/hate thing going on with. I hated the Uncle attached to him in my head (what a jerk) but I also have a darling cousin with the same name (the jerk’s oldest boy). And it hasn’t yet repeated in tthe family so I think it’s ripe for the picking.  I have a standard for him but was trying out a few other thoughts. Which is your favorite?

Edward Ignatius George
Edward Valerian George
Edward Balthazar George
Edward Constantine George
Edward Apollo George
Edward Wilder George

Have been tossing Florence around in my head again too and am down to these two combos, stalemate. Help me?

Florence Viola Calliope
Florence Lila Ghislaine

And the three Oddballs, which do you like best?

Agatha Esme Plum
Winifred Esme Plum
Ottilie Esme Plum

As usual, any thoughts are greatly appreciated.    Thanks!

The Middles

I thought I’d talk a bit about those names that you always see in my middle spots and why they’re there. It seems as if the same ones show up again & again and that can be tedious to  see over & over again.  At least, that was the thinking at the beginning of this post, I have no idea where this is going yet.   Now, onto those names!

The guys:
Edward/Edgar – I have two Uncles named Ed-, One married into the family (Edgar), one was born into the family (Edward).  I liked Edgar better than Edward, as far as Uncles go but like both names pretty much equally.

William/Willem – William is the family name, I have had several cousins with this name. Willem is my “MIL’s” Pop’s name, I found out recently.  Never thought to ask her parents names before this past summer. Duh. 😀

Arthur – One of my favorite Great Uncles on Pop’s side.  The sweetest guy on earth (next to my other half, that is).

Barnaby – He’s in the middle because we both like him very much. We allow ourselves one name that doesn’t honor. I’ve got him in a combo up front too. Which seems apt since we both do like him enough to do so.

Balthazar – Great Grandpa on Mom’s side. Father of my Babci and her 12 brothers (and one sister who died at 2). Mighty awesome dude with some really great stories. I like it enough to use up front but he’s wary of Getty. So in the middle he goes.

Henry – His Grandpop. I like Henry but not enough to use him up front. So in the middle he goes, again.

John/James – One of the other half’s middle names. James is the other.   He’s not fond of his name but like James & John. That’s why they’re on this list.

Valentin – My personal favorite of The maternal Great Uncles. Balthazar’s boys.   And he backhandedly seems to honor my Pop too, Valentine’s Day was his birthday and I’ve been  thinking  it’s a grand way to honor my Pop who hated his given name.

The gals:

Lucy – This is what my Mom wanted to name me, or Alice. She called me Lucy about 80% of the time anyway. I like the way I feel when I say Lucy. As Lucy though, I think she’s too short to stand well next to big sister Josephine.

Lily/Lilias – Lilian was Grandma. She went by Lily to one & all and called me Lily too. Lilias is just the Scots version that goes better with my surname.  I dislike the intense popularity of lil- so they go in the middle, where I can enjoy them but not share them often.

Alice –  She goes into the same category as Lucy. Even though she didn’t call me Alice very often, it still feels familiar and most definitely reminds me of Mom.

Elinor – I like her but not enough to actually use it in front. She honors a cousin of his that even I knew as a kid.  She died very young and I still miss her.  It’d be morbid up front too, for me.

Frances – Was Mom’s name.  She forbade me usage on a girl but She’s been gone so long (she died the same year the boys were born, but earlier in the year), I don’t think she’d begrudge me honoring in the middle, I hope.

Ruby – is a roundabout way of honoring me! It’s my birthstone. I love rubies too, more rare than diamonds, more precious too. Again, she’s unbalanced next to Josephine but works beautifully in the middle.

Esme/Esmée – Is the Barnaby of the girls list. We just like her. I prefer the streamlined Esme, he prefers the more obviously feminine Esmée. So I try out both variations to see where they’d fit best.

Violet – My lovely  Aunt. Well, sort of. I always called her Aunt Violet, she always answered to it. And always wondered why the older cousins & mom called her Val. But long after her death I find out her name was actually Valeria or Valeriana. The latter is on her BC the former on her SS card. And Violet is on her death Certificate!  I always remember her as Violet though, so Violet is what goes in the middle.

Kathleen – My younger sister. She’s a darling and I love her to pieces. She’s childless by choice and 39 so I doubt she’ll have any herself in the near future. I thin it’s one of the freshest forms of Kate around right now and love it because it’s her name.

Pandora – only shows up in the middle because it’s my “MIL’s” name. (I put mil in quotes because we’re not married and she’s not technically my mil, but  we’ve been together so long it’s like she’s unofficially so). A lovely, unassuming woman. She stepped right in when my Mom died and took over for her. Made  me feel safe again. Even though its usually “dead to be honored” around here, she means so much to me, I’d love to see her face  when she realises it’s for her. We’re not telling her beforehand.  I love it and would use it up front but the myth rather bugs me. So in the middle she goes. Where she’s safely honoring.

And those are mine.  Any you like? Dislike?   What names do you find only “fit” for middle use?

August, Miles & Felix

Three guys today, duh. 😉  August,  Miles & Felix.  August is a relative newcomer to my lists. He’s been on less than a year but I really think he’s a keeper. August is strong, manly and honors my Mother, born in August without resorting to using the name she forbade me from using. And he’s pure sunshine to me, colorwise, that blinding yellow-white of the sun.

Miles, on the other hand, honors no one. I just like his feel and his look. His sound is rather crystalline too, sharp. If Josephine had been born with boy parts, Miles Xavier George/James she would have been. I’ve found better homes from Xavier (Remus Edward Xavier) and George (Alasdair Barnaby George) but am still rather smitten with Miles, even after nearly 5 years. Miles is a deep grass green to me, he’s another green M.

And Felix, which slides on & off my lists every few weeks for the last two years. I think he’s great. Stylish, sweet, and dashingly handsome. I have a poll going with Felix combos because we made a list of a bunch that appealed to us and now we can’t whittle them down to the one we like best. A poll always helps, whether I agree with the results or not. 🙂 Felix is eggplant colored. Deep purple brown, really neat to look at for me.

The combos for August & Miles:

August Edward Valentine
Miles George Porfirio

If you’re not inclined to follow the link, here’s Felix:

Felix Edward Finnian
Felix Edward Rohan
Felix Arthur Jolyon
Felix Edward Alasdair
Felix Edward Anselm
Felix Arthur Grey
Felix Barnaby Edward
Felix Edward Bede

I’ve bolded the ones we seem to gravitate back towards in discussion, but again, there’s no hope of narrowing just yet.

Feel free to tell me what you think and as always, thanks for stopping by, Company’s always welcome!

Malcolm

It’s Malcom’s day! I’ve liked him for a long time, since I was a teen, at least. I find him strong, handsome, smart and fun to say. He’s truly awesome, in a whole host of ways. Sound, looks, feel, color, even:

He’s a lovely shade of green, vibrant!   india_k-lakshmi-krishna11 After toying with Barnaby in first, I will admit, I’m far more comfortable with him in the middle, I have him in my #2 combo: Cassius Barnaby Rex (I know it’s not something that’s to everyone’s taste) & here, with Malcolm: Malcolm Barnaby Edward. I also have Malcolm in another combo but I don’t like him quite as much: Malcolm Alasdair Rhys. I think it’s got a great sound, overall but he’s a bit too Scottish, even for me in the end.

But Malcolm sounds great with the MacK surname and I must say, his kingly overtones make me happy.   He’s linked to my favorite Shakesperian tale and my favorite Star Trek Bad guy: Malcolm McDowell  (A Clockwork Orange remains a big favorite of mine due to it’s sheer oddness).  I even once got to have lunch with Malcolm Forbes. I used to go to air shows frequently and there was one in NJ (when I was living there), near Readington that I got lucky at. I literally ran into the man and offered my picnic lunch as an apology. He accepted but insisted I join him at it.  What a lovely, warm, friendly man.   I asked Verity to cover him for me back in September.  She did a most admirable job.

So, while I’m besotted, I’d love to hear your thoughts on Malcolm and his combo. You can’t possibly hurt my feelings and I’d welcome any thinks you may have about him!

Thanks!

Barnaby – the underappreciated

Today’s Barnaby’s day. I’m besotted with him.   I love his sound in full enough that I’m starting to consider him as a first name. He’s a snazzy dude, say him aloud. All that fun in a sound but colored such a starchy burgundy!

I wish I could think of another possible nickname for him besides Barney, that is. It’s the only reason I keep him in the middle. But I digress. Barnaby. He’s happy, cheerful; heck, sprightly!  He’s suave, snappy, he’s fantastic!  I could happily live with a  boy child named Barnaby.

Thinking of combos last night. I seem to like Edward with Barnaby. Barnaby Edward, Barnaby ___ Edward. I must entertain other ideas!  Edward does honor Mom’s eldest brother, though.

Now to complete:
Barnaby Edward Maxfield – for my favorite Artist, ever:  Maxfield Parrish.
Barnaby Milo Edward – is Milo too jaunty next to Barnaby?
Barnaby Edward Jasper – Just diggin’  Jasper, man.
Barnaby Edward Maxim – Maxim’s another of the 12 G. Uncles.
Barnaby Edward Arthur – Arthur’s another G. Uncle, but on Pop’s side, not Mom’s.
Barnaby Edward Finbar – too much -bar sound here or okay?
Barnaby Edward John – To honor the other half.
Barnaby Oscar Edward – Jazzy Oscar’s got the right vibe for me here.
Barnaby Edward Rex – ’cause Rex is just awesome and by association… 🙂

Wow, that was just a haf hour’s worth of brainstorming!  So do you see anything you like up there? There’s a poll   already going, if you care to click & vote. Or just post here, c0omments are always welcome!

And, if you can think of any other nicknames for Barnaby, please tell me! All I’ve got is Bee, B and Barney. How bad is Barney, really?

Clarence, expanded

I like warm & fuzzy things.  Clarence is one of them. Yes, he’s warm, fuzzy,  friendly,  happy, strong and handsome.  I’ve liked him for a good while now, a year and a half, maybe a bit more. I think he’s pretty awesome, actually.  I only have one small problem,  I’m still looking for his perfect combo.  Here’s what I’ve gone through already:

Clarence Henry Rafael
Clarence Henry Xavier
Clarence Dashiell Henry
Clarence Henry Valentin
Clarence Gavriel George
Clarence Gabriel Arthur
Clarence Alastair George
Clarence Rohan George
Clarence Edward Fionn
Clarence Henry Gavriil
Clarence Gavriil Finn
Clarence Gavriel George
Clarence Henry Rafael
Clarence Arthur Gabriel
Clarence Henry Neville
Clarence Edward Rafael
Clarence Edward Jude
Clarence Edward Bruce
Clarence Edward Reuel
Clarence Henry Reuel

My goodness, that’s a lot of Clarences!  And worse, there’s more:

Clarence Fintan Hugh
Clarence John Reuel
Clarence Hugo James
Clarence Edward Jude
Clarence Arthur Jude
Clarence Arthur Finlay
Clarence William Alasdair
Clarence Julien Edward

I’ve tentatively settled with Clarence Henry Rafael but am also liking Clarence Henry Reuel (The best way to honor Tolkien!),  Clarence Rohan George, Clarence Edward Fionn & Clarence Dashiell Henry (or maybe Clarence Henry Dashiell?).  Clarence Fintan Hugh’s pretty awesome and I really dig Clarence Arthur Finlay. Worse yet, he doesn’t have a preference, he just likes Clarence, and says he honestly doesn’t care what he’s paired with. Clarence is his #1 choice, Cosmo’s mine. We’ve come to an agreement on Cosmo (Cosmo Henry Gavriil) but nothing even close with Clarence. I really do like him but am having such trouble!

Something still feels missing, though. Clarence almost sparkles with Henry Reuel & Edward Fionn but almost isn’t good enough. Clarence Arthur Finlay is probably the sparkliest one for me. What do you think? 😀
