Presenting: the Family Girls on my list!

Here they are, the Family names on the list:

Cecily: honors Babci Cecilia, who’s already been honored & in use by three different cousins, Cecilia, Celia & Ceil. Cecily is the only girly variant that hasn’t been used. I’m closer to the cousin Cecilia and think she’d be tickled to have a “namesake”, so to speak. I like that she’s three syllables and not common but familiar enough that she won’t get strange looks. Her combo: Cecily Pandora Jane, honors all the way through, just like Josie’s.

Tallulah: Was my Paternal Great Grandmother, my Grandpop’s mother. I never knew her. But I like Tallulah’s galloping rhythm quite a bit. I like that her combo honors beginning to end too, it’s: Tallulah Frances May.

Elspeth: Was my Great Aunt. Same Grandpop’s (from above) sister. I always knew her as Aunt Elsie. My Grandma filled me in long after both she & my Grandpop were gone. Elspeth charms me to my toes, she’s Scottish and so matches my surname very well. I like nn’s Bess, Elsie, Lily & Elsa best. But I like that she’d have about a dozen to choose from, should she want. Again, like Josie. I found the lovliest combo for her too: Elspeth Scarlett Jane.

Margery: Margery’s a lovely cousin I haven’t seen since we were 14 or so, but I remember her well. I’d probably nn Margery, Daisy or Maisie/May. Margey, which the cousin got, does not appeal, nor do the countless Mag- nicknames. Mag- is so masculine a sound to me. I’ll have a Magnus to nn Maggie before I’d use it on a girl! I found a lovely combo that honors thoroughly too: Margery Elspeth Violet.

Winifred: My lovely Auntie. Yes, really. Uncle Skip’s wife. Pop’s youngest brother. He’s a flake and a half, but she’s lovely! She’d be tickled too, if I used it. I found the perfect combo for her too: Winifred Elinor Plum. Elinor honors His side (a cousin) and Plums are His favorite fruit. And Plum is such a luscious sound!

So, there they are. What do you think? 😀

Working on Cecily Again

I’m still loving Cecily to honor Babci Cecilia/Cecylia. I’ve had a lovely combo for awhile now too: Cecily Pandora Jane. As you might recall, Pandora’s his Mom’s real first name and Jane was my Mom’s middle.
But I’ve been rethinking a bit.

Cecily Violet Petronel is a combo I’m revisiting. I love Cecily Violet together and Petronel not only honors great uncle Pyotr, I love Petronel’s fairytale feel.

I’ve also got:
Cecily Scarlet Godeleve (he Loves this one)
Cecily Winifred Malu
Cecily Scarlett Matilde
Cecily Petronella Grey
Cecily Violet Elinor (is almost too bland for me, but he rather likes it)
Cecily Valentina Grey
Cecily Oona Violet (I’m loving Oona in the middle!)
Cecily Esmée Violet (which honors as well: Esmeralda/Esmée/Esme. I prefer the girlier Esmée.)
Cecily Violet Raube (Raube is my Grandma’s maiden name)
Cecily Violet Odetta

So, do you think I should stick with Cecily Pandora Jane or do one of these newer thoughts strike you more? I would love to know! And as always, thanks for stopping by.

Cecilia/Cecily

My Babci was Cecilia (well, Polish: Cecylia, anglicised when she was 5). I have three cousins named Cecilia, none of them are actually related to her, their Grandpop married her second.  Celia, Ceil & Cecilia they go by. So I put Cecily on our list, as it’s one variation not taken. And in that instance, it’s like Josephine seeing as how she’s named after that Grandpop, Joseph and there are no other Josephines in the family, just 12 Josephs.  Odd, but true  (the one there was died when I was 14).

I’ve had Cecily Pandora Jane (Babci, His Mom, My Mom)  as a standing combo for at least half a year, if not longer. I still think it’s absolutely aces and love it to pieces. But I still like Cecilia quite a bit. It was nearly my name (Pop’s suggestion, Mom didn’t want to) which would have been funny because my very first school friend was a Cecilia (and she’s been my BFF since kindergarten),  whose Grandmother was a Laura (which is the name *I* got! Weird, no)? 😉

So I went digging. I knew I wanted to keep it mainly family, so Cecilia Violet was my first instinct.  And then I stumbled across Petronel again, Medieval Petronilla, which is from Latin Petronus, now Peter. And Peter was my Babci’s favorite brother.  So it definitely works with Cecilia in my mind. So Cecilia Violet Petronel is the overall favorite, so sweet & charming. What do you think of her next to Cecily Pandora Jane?

And just in case you think coming up with Cecilia Violet Petronel was easy, here are the other tries:

Cecilia Iris Adele
Cecilia Iris June
Cecilia Iris Valentina
Cecilia Iris Angelina
Cecilia Oona Rosemary
Cecilia Ivy Elspeth
Cecilia Ruby Jane
Cecilia Primrose June/Cecilia June Primrose
and

Cecilia Ivy Anouk

I still prefer Cecilia Violet Petronel over them all. I’m just not sure I like it better than sprightly Cecily Pandora Jane.   Either way she’d be Celie or Cece easily.  What do you think? Cecilia, to be one of now four or Cecily, to stand apart slightly?

And, as always, Thanks a million!

Have to Narrow it down a bit!

What to do? I now have a top 11 (12 if you count Cleo instead of considering her as alternate for Clementine) and this is insane. My boys are down to 9, and I could easily cut that to four without crying much, but the girls? My goodness, they grow & grow. I sat & looked at this list for about an hour last night and still can’t decide which to cut, or at least put in the wildcards list. I’ve already put Ottilie there, much to my chagrin, I’ve loved her for so long it hurts to see her way down there but I digress, because adding her would make it a top 12 (13 if you count Cleo)!

Here’s my most recent top 11, what would you cut out to make it 10 (or better yet, 8) and would you tell me why
you cut what you cut? I can’t make myself cut anything, I love them all!

Here (with possible nicknames):
Maud India Scarlett – Maudie, Mattie, Mims, Mimi
Beatrix Ivy Frances – Bea, Trixie, Bebe
Clementine India Maud – Cleo, Clio/Cleo Portia Rupinder
Winifred Elinor Plum – Winnie, Winne, Freda
Imogen Violet Jane – Immy, Mimi, Io
Tallulah Poppy Frances – Lulu, Lucy, Tula
Zelda Lucy Violet – Zella, Zellie, Zel
Edith Zenobia Violet – Edie, Dita
Penelope Saskia Violet – Nell, Poppy, Polly, Penny
Cecily Pandora Jane – Celie, Cece, Celia
Eulalie Frances Pearl – Lula, Lula, Lolly

Every time I try to cut one, I think Oh, not that one, it’s too pretty, too lovely, too sweet and try another and waaah! I just can’t do it! Help, please?

Thanks very much. I’d make a lousy surgeon, methinks!

A completely new thought

What do you think of Daisy Angeline? I stuck them together in my head and am rather pleased with the overall image and sound. I came up  with a  few combos for them as a middle. I could never use Daisy as a standalone name!
What do you think of these:

Cecilia Daisy Angeline
Elspeth Daisy Angeline
Matilda Daisy Angeline
Beatrix Daisy Angeline
Penelope Daisy Angeline
Winifred Daisy Angeline
Tallulah Daisy Angeline

Just random thinking today. I’m a bit scattered, oddly.  What do you think?  I’d love to know!

The Battling Girls!

I am going crazy over girls names. With boys, I’m much pickier and it’s easier to figure out what I really like vs. what I simply enjoy. With boys, it’s practically a three way tie between Cosmo, Rufus & Barnaby and that’s about it. Everything else on the list pales by comparison. So it’ll be easy to decide on a boys name if we have one.

But a girl? I’m going crazy, literally.

There’s the “normals”: Cecily, Beatrix & Clementine and the oddballs: Jemima, Zelda & Winifred.  I love all six of them and couldn’t decide which one I’d actually use if you paid me to decide.  I could have sextuplets and happily use them all. Sadly, it’s probably just one and I have to choose.  I love all their combos, really. Clementine’s probably been on the list longest of the normals, She went on the list back in ’95. Zelda’s been on the list of oddballs since ’73, since that’s when I first started keeping lists. She was on the mental list in ’69! I wanted to name my sister Zelda but Mom was having none of it.  Cecily & Winifred are  the newest; Winifred 5 years on, Cecily, two on. Beatrix & Jemima have probably been on the list for about 8 years now.

When I was deciding on Josephine’s name, I brought my notebooks of names in my bag and after she was born, I dug through the lists I had at the time, assembled what appealed in several instances and tried them out on her little self when she was in the room  (I only sent her back to the nursery once, that first night, so I could sleep. Otherwise she was in my room no-stop so I had plenty of time to try them all out.  I finally found something that not only made me sing, but seemed to suit her. I can’t explain how that huge name seemed to suit the little baby she was then, it just did.

How did you decide on your children(s) names? What were the deciding factors for you, How did you narrow it down? How do I do so?  Goddess knows, I’d happily name a girl all of these, ridiculous as it sounds but I know I can’t.  So, how do I go about choosing? Any hints? Pointers? Words of advice? Anything?   Help!

 Thanks!
