Maxfield

Yes, Maxfield. My second favorite Max name (Maxim/Maksim still outranks him as a family name), in honor of my absolute favorite artist Maxfield Parrish.  I run into people every so often who are completely unaware of who he was or what he did. I’m rather tired of saying “Google him” so I thought I’d talk about about the inspiration behind wanting to use Maxfield. Firstly, here’s a link to his Wikipedia page:  Maxfield Parrish

aquamarine-1917  a copy of this picture hangs in my living room, It’s called Aquamarine and was originally painted in 1917.  I could never afford an original!  🙂 I love the blues in it. It makes me feel serene, no matter what state of mind I’m in, when I see it, I can feel my blood pressure go down. It is really a lovely picture.  I have another print:

parrish-maxfield-the-reservoir-at-villa-falconieri-frascatiCalled “Reservoir at Villa Falconieri, Frascati” (1903) and it’s in my bedroom, I love those warm yellows & greens.  That sky is really a plummy shade and overall, the warmth  emanating from this one is lovely. I love yellow & green and those colors echo throughout the house.   My Pop always said it was weird that more than half the pictures in my place were of trees.  But I do seem to be drawn to them.

Back to Maxfield.  Maxfield, being an ‘M’ name, is also green to me. In fact, he’s the same green shade as those trees in that last painting. Such a warm olive tone!

I know Max is rather overdone but I still like his verve and wouldn’t mind having one around for myself.  I’d rather get him though Maxim, since it is a family name but the men’s magazine rather dissuades me.  I think Max fits in just perfectly with his brothers and still also meshes well with his sister.  So, how unusable is Maxfield, in comparison? If you ran into (yet another) Max, would you rather he be a Maxim or a Maxfield in full?  I’d love to know!  Thanks!

Eric Mabius of Ugly Betty has two sons, Maxfield Elliot and Rylan Jaxson, which I barely understand because Maxfield is so classic-ly off, while Elliot is so classic-ly normal, so they fit wonderfully. Rylan Jaxson is just so &!^@ with the wonderful Maxfield!

I adore Max (as does most of the American population it seems), but could never wrap my mind around a long-form. Maxim is too soft-porn magazine for me, Maksim does draw away from that though, Maximilian is too long and pretentious for my taste, and Maxwell has a bad connotation for me. Which is why Max isn’t on my list any longer. Maxfield is one of my guilty pleasures. I’d use it, if I had the guts (perhaps I should see the Wizard…), but can’t find a way to make it fit with my other names.

See, there’s another pop culture reference that completely escaped me! I just don’t watch tv anymore. I couldn’t even begin to guess why Rylan after Maxfield! I have a soft spot for Maximilian too, thanks to Russell Crowe. Maxwell’s coffee to me and well, Maxim’s the magazine, but was also my Great Uncle (the one with the cool stories of Russia). I don’t know how well Maksim would go down here in New England as a spelling, which is why Maxim flirts around the bottom of my lists. But Maxfield, now he makes me smile, is unassaulting andfeels a bit spiffy even.

But yeah, Max is popular and I know it. I know a Max kid, he’s rapidly heading for a driver’s license these days (I think he’s about 16 now). So I know it’s been popular awhile. But oh, he fits so well with Leo, Simon & Josephine! Good thing I still have time to stew over Max.

Thanks for stopping by Cecily! Your name is at the top of my lists if Josephine eer ends up with a sister. 😀

I don’t think I’ve ever heard Maxfield before, but it’s fabulous. It has that surnamey, placenamey feel without being a trendy surname. Maxim is my favorite Max name, too, though the magazine does put me off more than a bit. Maxwell feels too trendy, and although I love Maximilian, he does seem a bit overblown sometimes.

Either Maxim or Maxfield would be an amazing choice for you. I think I’m preferring Maxfield at the moment.

Thanks Emmy Jo! 🙂 I think Maxfield’s a winner of a Max too and I like him very much indeed. Now all I need to do is mention it to him and see if he bites. 😀

How baffling to read about M’s being green! M is one of the most vividly and dependably colored letters for me, and it is red, red, red.

Maxfield is neat. I had not heard of it before. I love Maxim; I’m not into Max, it makes me feel claustrophobic, but Maxim makes my PNL on vibe alone. So old and Russian, and what a nice word it is. (The magazine doesn’t concern me because I don’t think it would ever make my shortlist.) I am not sure about Maxfield v Maxim, but they are definitely the best two. Maxfield is totally usable.

Thanks Emma! Funny about synesthesia, very few people seem wired to see the same colors. I’ve been looking at my MacK surname for 41 years and it is most definitely green to me. O’s are red. So are T’s & L’s. Z’s & E’s are orange with some reddish tones overlapping, especially if there are O, L or T’s in the name. (Elliot is the most awesome shade of orange red!) Thanks for the positive vote for Maxfield despite that. I think he’s kind of awesome myself. Parrish got it from his grandmother, it was her maiden name, IIRC. It’s not a family surname for me but I’ve been a fan of Parrish since I was a small child (He died the year before I was born). His style has always appealed. Maxim never makes me think of the magazine, ever, but other people point it out. It doesn’t really bother me. I mean, I’ve got Cosmo riding at #1 and he’s a magazine too. At least Maxim is a men’s magazine, not a women’s, hmm? 😉 And I really don’t think Maksim as a spelling is going to go over well here in Irish New England. It would probably give him massive headaches, even for spelling. So while I think Maxim/Maksim is awesome, I’ll probably stick with Maxim. I think he’s worth it. And Max really does work well with the sibset despite popularity!
